What if my dog is a picky eater and won't take the chews?Updated 4 months ago
Honestly, this almost never happens. The vast majority of dogs eat these right out of your hand and come back looking for more. But every once in a while there's a dog who needs a little convincing, and if that's yours, here's what works.
The easiest approach is to crumble the chew and mix it into a spoonful of wet food or peanut butter. Once it's mixed in, most picky dogs won't even notice it's there. You can also warm the chew slightly in your hands before offering it, which releases more of the aroma and makes it more appealing. For dogs that are truly stubborn, try breaking it into small pieces and tucking them inside a treat or a puzzle feeder, or offering it right after a walk or play session when they're hungrier and less selective.
Here's the pattern we see over and over: even dogs that hesitate on day one are eating them eagerly within a few days once they get used to the taste and smell. So give it a little time before you assume your dog won't take them.
